Description

This Masterclass focuses on tracking and reporting financial performance necessary for operating a biogas plant in an economically viable and profitable way. It aims to equip the participants with the skills needed to support informed decision-making and long-term project success. It provides a foundation for understanding how to forecast and budget the company’s future financial performance. Aligning these activities with strategic goals is valuable for both plant managers and business stakeholders. The Masterclass starts with financial structures, major cost drivers and revenue potential. Using real world case studies and financial models, it offers an in-depth exploration of the economics and key sensitivities of biogas plants. Understanding these sensitivities allows operators and investors to identify the most influential risk factors and to develop mitigation strategies, such as long‑term feedstock contracts, hedging energy prices, or investing in efficiency improvements. Furthermore, this Masterclass introduces key methods for hedging and de-risking biogas projects, helping to secure the most attractive financing structures and presenting the range of options available for biogas plant developers and operators. Through practical tools, participants will learn the power of combining non-financial and financial data, and how to assess performance, reporting, forecasting and risk management. This Masterclass is designed for finance professionals such as finance managers, financial controllers, business controllers, and accountants—especially those seeking a high-level introduction to understanding financial performance, reporting and modelling specific to biogas plants. It is also suitable for individuals in roles with some financial exposure who are looking to deepen their understanding of the economic aspects of biogas projects. Operational roles—such as plant managers or operations managers—are also welcome to attend. However, please note that a basic level of financial knowledge is assumed.
