Description
Enhancing the day‑to‑day performance of a modern biogas plant requires combining operational insights, advanced process optimisation, and a clear understanding of the rapidly evolving European biogas market.
This Masterclass provides a comprehensive exploration of the key components of biogas systems and the advanced techniques in the anaerobic digestion process that drive efficient and optimised methane formation.
A wide range of factors influence the efficiency of an anaerobic digestion (AD) plant, and operators have many levers to create more robust and productive digestion conditions.
By using priming substrates and pre- and post- treatment techniques, a significant boost of the methane production efficiency can be achieved.
The programme also explores the broader market context, offering an up‑to‑date overview of the European biogas and biomethane sector, including country‑specific production trends, support mechanisms, and the main EU policies shaping the industry. Emerging opportunities—such as biogenic CO₂ valorisation and advanced digestate valorisation—highlight where future growth is expected. Together, these insights equip plant managers, operators, engineers and developers to navigate the challenges ahead and harness the expanding role of renewable gases in Europe’s energy transition.

The Biogas Convention & Trade Fair
This Masterclass is held during the Energy-Decentral (10–13 November 2026) in Hannover. The biogas trade fair organised by Fachverband Biogas is part of the Energy-Decentral. Participants of the Masterclass have:- Free access to the exhibition grounds (Hannover Exhibition Center): to the Energy-Decentral trade fair and the Convention Center (CC), where the Masterclass will take place. Participants can also visit the large EuroTier trade fair, which is being held at the same time (Address: Deutsche Messe AG, Exhibition Grounds, 30521 Hannover). Participants will be notified of the exact venue shortly before the event.
- Opportunity to visit Energy-Decentral from the 10th to the 13th of November (from 9.00 to 18.00).
- Access to the networking event on the 11th of November at hall 25, at the joint stand of the Fachverband Biogas "BIOGAS-Treff".
- Guided tour to selected biogas exhibitors in hall 25.
