Description
The European biogas and biomethane market is growing fast.
Fully interchangeable with fossil natural gas, biogases offer a renewable alternative that is already being used across multiple applications, including heating systems, industrial processes and road and marine transport.
To guarantee sustainability, biogases must be transparently defined through clear characteristics. Independent third-party certification bodies play a crucial role in validating the environmental integrity of biogas and biomethane production.
Certification provides the foundation for standardised, transparent and transferable trading of biomethane across Europe by detailing its energy and environmental attributes. Although trading is regulated, large barriers still exist.
While the production of biomethane grows rapidly, its trading throughout Europe becomes increasingly important. Despite the push for a unified internal European market, trading biogases remains complex.
This Masterclass covers the regulatory framework of Europe’s most relevant strategies and legislation concerning the trade of biomethane. It offers an in-depth exploration of both the opportunities and complexities, revealing how producers can benefit from both domestic and cross-border markets.
