Description

This 1-day Masterclass provides a deep dive in the main aspects that are relevant for the biogas sector focusing on market dynamics and trade. Starting focus on market aspects, the course provides an overview of the current state and future role of the sector in the energy transition and highlights the increasing attention towards the added benefits of biogas production, which can deliver significant long term economy-wide benefits beyond renewable energy provision. It will further zoom into the various support mechanisms at both European and national level. The section concludes with an overview of the chances and challenges and opportunities the sector stands for. The second part of this Masterclass covers the regulatory framework of Europe’s most relevant strategies and legislation concerning the trade of biomethane. While the production of biomethane grows rapidly, its trading throughout Europe becomes increasingly important. Despite the push for a unified internal European market, trading biogases remains complex. Although trading is regulated, large barriers still exist. This part focuses on the key components of biomethane trading, revealing how producers can benefit from both domestic and cross-border markets.
